It’s not what you think. After having more conversations with a variety of businesspeople than I can count, I have found a common denominator. When talking about online marketing and websites most people believe that the answer is in the website. Yes, the website is important and, all too often inadequate to the task. However, focusing on the website is putting the cart before the horse.
If you are one of those people who stands in front of the microwave yelling hurry up, you’re in trouble. It takes time and careful consideration acquire a firm understanding of what it takes to succeed. Dr. Stephen Covey says that we need to “start with the end in mind.” Absolutely True! But wait. You may have an idea about what you want but, it is not enough. Have you given the idea enough thought and consideration to know that your true desires are really at the top of your list? People tend to think too small. The other limitation is in the tendency to place your end result goals in the acquisition of material things. Material things should only be components of the bigger picture.
So! What’s the answer? Start with your reason why. What is your primary reason for wanting something different? What problems have you solved in the process? What does life look like? Are you living a life that is fulfilling? Have you arrived at a point in life that affords you freedom of choice?
It’s alright to have markers along the way. You may want a certain amount of money in the bank. You may want a new car, or house, vacations, or a move to a different climate. Guess what! It’s still not enough.
Everything I have listed is important. However, you will never have these things if you don’t start with the right mindset. Why do 96% of those who begin the success journey come up short? What is it that 4% of ther achievers have in common?
- They have no doubt about what they want.
- They absolutely believe they can do it.
- They are open to learning all they can in the pursuit of their dream.
- They have a plan.
- They take action!!!
I find it amazing and sad that so many people want something more and have no idea where to start and no personal drive or commitment to go for it.
Websites, email systems, and marketing strategies can be acquired along the way. I truly believe that anyone with a strong desire, a commitment to the process, and the willingness to learn can achieve anything they want. Yes! Start with the end in mind. Yes! You have to take action.
Here is a helpful tip. Create a storyboard that you can refer to daily, if not hourly. What kind of choices would you like to be able to make? What are some of the progress makers along the way?
